New National Representative of IUCN/SSC Otter Specialist Group for Nepal Mr. Gandhiv Kafle has been nominated as National Represenative of IUCN/SSC Otter Specialist Group for Nepal in November 2009. Mr. Kafle has been contributing to explore status of least-studied otters in Nepal since years. Nepal Otter Project would like to congratulate him and look forward to working with him.
New Otter Habitat Survey around Pokhara Valley Lakes As part of creating baseline information on status of otters in Pokhara valley, WFN carried out a study to identify the potential otter habitats around 9 lakes of Pokhara valley of Nepal. The study has identified key potential habitats of otters in Begnas, Rupa, Gunde, Khaste, Neureni and Dipang lakes. Participatory study has revealed that otters are not present in Phewa and Maidi lakes since last 10-12 years. Next plan is to assess the status of otters using camera trapping technique.
